Friday Prompt "Fire"

For the drabble and prompt "fire" at [livejournal.com profile] lostsquee.

It's technically 2 drabbles of 100 words each - like a drabble and it's sequel or something.

Spoilers/speculation/wishful thinking for next week's episode. Not like huge spoilers, though, because it had to happen sooner or later or not at all. So...yeah...

Jack/Sawyer
vague Sawyer/Kate
100 words

+++

Sawyer doesn't know how to approach him when they return. He sees them across the sand and sees by the distance between Jack and Kate how things are. If he's mad at her, Sawyer knows, then Jack sure as hell ain't happy with him. Either Kate told or Jack found out, but no matter how it happened, Jack knows.

Everyone else sees Jack and Sawyer as rivals when only Jack and Sawyer know the truth.

He turns his gaze away, back to the book in his lap, not giving Jack the chance to show Sawyer how much he hates him.

+

Back at camp and Jack's back to not being able to sleep. Nothing appears to have changed when everything feels like it has. Jack walks towards the lone light burning at one part of the beach, away from the rest of the community, and he's drawn like a moth to the flame. Sawyer's reading by firelight, and Jack's tempted to play along with the illusion that nothing has changed.

"You're hurting your eyes reading like that."

Jack watches Sawyer watching him for a moment, awkward until Jack can make out Sawyer's grin in the flickering light. "Want a beer, Doc?"

Lovely work! I have to admit that I'm not normally much of a Jack/Sawyer 'shipper, but you've really got me pulling for them in this one.

Those characters are the ones I love most in the show, so if they don't have ANY scenes together in the next episode, I won't be very happy.

:) Glad you liked it.

I wondered if I should read because of possible spoilers but I did anyway.... and I am so glad. I'd want it to go like that, so much! lol! very well done.

of course Jack is so pissed because his bf cheated on him. I like how they avoid it in the second part.

I tried to make it clear that it wasn't like a huge spoiler, but I think the fact that it was any spoiler still might have scared some people away. Eh, I wouldn't want to be spoiled, either, so I'll deal. ;)

They're both very good at avoiding, so I hope that's how it goes down. *prays to TPTB*

Thanks, hun, I'm glad you liked it!

Aww, wouldn't it be cool if it went that way? God, I would love it. Only in our dreams, I'm afraid. Great job with these!

I would be a very happy fangirl if that was how it went. Alas, probably not. :( We can pretend though, right? That's what fandom's for. ;) Thanks, sweetie!

Nothing appears to have changed when everything feels like it has.

I love that, and allof both of these.

I really like this. I wish things could be so simple between these two. I love Sawyer's disappointment when he sees how things are between Jack and Kate and so knows how things are between Jack and him. And that moment when he looks down because he doesn't want to see Jack's hatred, that kind of hurt.

But the second one, where Jack shows that he's not really made at Sawyer, that makes it all better. I love how it's awkward, how there's so much that goes unsaid, but they manage to come together anyway, commonplace conversation filling for what they'd really like to say.

Very nicely done :)

Heee, Gem, I think your review is longer than the drabbles. ;) But you're so totally right with everything you said - they're awkward, don't really share, both better at reading people than expressing themselves.

I almost might want to make a full-length fic out of this - not sure, yet. Sometimes things like this can be ruined by stretching them out.

Glad you like it, though, babe!

Don't we all... Although I have a feeling that a hug might be asking too much. Maybe like...eyes meeting and a very manly nod to each other would have me happy.

hi! *waves*
I have been lurking your lj for months, but this is my first comment here.
I'm not a great lover of drabbles in general, I love long stories that get you sucked in the atmosphere, and build up the situation, but I really liked these two drabbles.
I'm so longing for the J/S reunion on show... I wish they would hug and behave like loversfriends, but I know that would be impossible.
But your drabbles are giving me hope... Maybe (maybe!) it could go this way... a bit of feigned indifference at first, and then avoiding it but relating to each other again...
I'm easy to please, that would be enough for me!
Anyway, thanks for sharing!

OT: I've read somewhere else on your lj that you are trying to keep track of all the drabbles in a single post... You are really accomplishing a useful task, I'd bookmark that post!

See I'll be excited if they just make eye contact because the way the writers have been working this season, I'm not expecting consistency. Or when he saw Sayid at the end of the last episode, there wasn't a hug or a handshake or anything, and Sayid DIDN'T sleep with Kate, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up for the reunion. But I'm glad you liked my version of it - fangirls are allowed to dream.

Hee, why yes, I did. Could not resist. And I can still do these little drabbles with a dead muse. :) Glad you liked it!
