+++

Dean doesn't think he's strong enough, but that's okay, because you do.

Doubt, Anna had called it. You feel the way the word rolls off your tongue, being able to associate the name with the feeling for the first time. There's a reason God gave emotions to Man - they meant pain, anguish, and mortality meant the suffering would be short-lived.

Dean has fallen back asleep - he's tired, weak, and you stay because he never told you otherwise. You don't know where Sam is and feel relief that he didn't ask.

You pull the chair closer, watching the flutter of his eyelids as he sleeps, wishing that you had the ability to heal the scars in his memory as you had those on his body. Sam had asked for a miracle like you could create them, not knowing that you were praying for one as well.

Your existence had been so much simpler before saving Dean Winchester. His mouth is moving slightly, brow furrowing as he dreams, and you lean closer, trying to make out the words being formed, but all you can hear is his breath. You're leaning close enough now that you can also feel it, the warmth of it brushing against your cheek, your lips. You remember how Anna had kissed him, using it as a symbol of comfort in the face of what was about to happen, but she'd been human still at the time. You aren't sure of the repercussions of an angel kissing a human, but surely a token of love towards Father's favorite creatures couldn't be construed as blasphemy.

Closing the gap, driven by curiosity and the need to comfort, you lightly brush your lips against his, feeling the heat of his flesh against your own, but Dean's is much more fragile, more easily broken - at least compared to your true form, not this vessel - which makes him all the more beautiful.

His murmurs stop, and you pull back, fearful that he's been woken, but he sleeps on peacefully. You smile slightly, glad you could at least give him this moment.

He may not think he's strong enough, but you do, and even if you lose your faith in God, you will have it in Dean.

Thanks so much, hun! I tried to keep it simple since I think Cas is used to thinking in black and white. Glad it worked!
