Summary: On Delta Vega, Kirk learned about the fall of the Terran Empire in an alternate universe. This knowledge festered in his brain during his first five years as captain of the ISS Enterprise. With McCoy's help, he plans to overthrow the empire and save it from destruction. The start of their second campaign puts the wheels in motion, leading to a coup that will guarantee the security of the Terran Empire.

Author's Notes: Well…here it is, everyone, my [livejournal.com profile] startrekbigbang fic. This follows my Symbiosis Trilogy (Mutualism, Commensalism, and Parasitism), and while I don't think it's necessary to read that first, it explains some details that I mention but don't go into. This also fills the [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo prompt experiments by evil scientists.

The following people I'd like to thank for hand-holding, cheerleading, and whip-cracking: [livejournal.com profile] inthekeyofd, [livejournal.com profile] siluria, [livejournal.com profile] sangueuk, [livejournal.com profile] gottalovev, [livejournal.com profile] selinamoonfire, [livejournal.com profile] blcwriter, [livejournal.com profile] caersmane, [livejournal.com profile] weepingnaiad, [livejournal.com profile] mardia, [livejournal.com profile] nikki4noo, [livejournal.com profile] jlh, [livejournal.com profile] lindmere, [livejournal.com profile] abigail89, [livejournal.com profile] hitlikehammers, [livejournal.com profile] flyingmachine, [livejournal.com profile] gadgetorious, and everyone who participated in the [livejournal.com profile] jim_and_bones Word Wars. Additional, extra special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] siluria and [livejournal.com profile] flyingmachine for beta, gamma, and delta reading.

1. Captain Bligh (Filter)
I am a grieving man
I can't believe the things I've done to you
I am a guilty man
And I can't believe the things I've done to you

2. The Beginning is the End is the Beginning (Smashing Pumpkins)
And now the kingdom comes
Crashing down undone
And I am a master of a nothing place
Of recoil and grace

3. H (Tool)
I am too connected to you
To slip away, fade away
Days away I still feel you
Touching me, changing me

4. You've Seen the Butcher (Deftones)
Don't wanna take it slow
I wanna take you home
And watch the world explode
From underneath your glow

5. The Wretched (Nine Inch Nails)
The clouds will part and the sky cracks open
And god himself will reach his fucking arm through
Just to push you down, just to hold you down
Stuck in this hole with the shit and the piss

6. Won't Back Down (Fuel)
The echoes in my brain
Of the things you said to me
You took my everything
Now I'm coming for you

7. The Scale (Interpol)
Well if there's something I should know
I seek no science when there is no shape
Under a molten sky, let the days collide
Well I made you and now I take you back

8. Blood Theme (Daniel Licht)
[instrumental]

9. Lullaby (A Perfect Circle)
Go back to sleep

10. Butterflies & Hurricanes (Muse)
Change everything you are
And everything you were
Your number has been called
Fights and battles have begun

11. You (Radiohead)
It's like the world is gonna end so soon
And why should I believe myself?
You, me and everything caught in the fire
I can see me drowning

12. The Pretender (Foo Fighters)
What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays?
You're the pretender
What if I say that I will never surrender?

I am on my way out for the weekend, followed by another few weeks/weekends away, but as soon as I have a free moment to breathe, I'm devouring this with the utter insatiability that it warrants <3

:D I can't praise this story - and this mix - enough! It was such a treat to read it (and listen to it - great song choices, totally fits!) and I'll definitely be bookmarking it.

Thanks, again! For the mix, too! I hadn't planned on doing it myself and then we were at second round pick and I was listening to the Deftones new album. They inspired me. :P
